WHAT IS THE VPUB?

The vPub (Virtual Pub) is a weekly livestream hosted on the Aqvavitae YouTube channel and simultaneously shared live via the Aqvavitae Facebook page, sharing all things whisky.

It started in 2017 with a desire to have a regular whisky-themed livestream slightly closer to UK and European timezones. Inspired by other successful community-focused streams at that time hosted by channels such as the Scotch Test Dummies, it settled into a regular thing.

In time, the amazing community brought great friendship and a sense of connectedness. Using technology, it includes everyone who’s free to join regardless of their location. This virtual space brought a feeling of almost gathering in a pub, and so it became the vPub. Originally a twice monthly schedule, it currently runs weekly with a short summer break (usually) from mid-July to late August. It cares not how you look, think, pray, eat, vote or live - only that you enjoy whisky or whisky folk.

The format often hosts guest from the community, the industry and other whisky-related personalities, but is mostly a loosely-themed show hosted by Roy. The interactive live chat in YouTube is always welcoming, helpful and super-friendly. It’s our duty to whisky that we maintain that positivity for as long as we possibly can.

The regulars often self-refer as “barflies” and have since grown a Barfly Facebook page designed to help people take that virtual environment and offer ways to connect in real life, be it through clubs, events, distillery visits, tastings or meet ups.

If you fancy, stay for the Quiz at the End, a whisky-themed challenge designed to share a wee bit of knowledge but also pique curiosity through occasional “banana skin” and “asshat” questions.

The vPub uses a compass-inspired motif as its logo because it’s responsible for creating connections and friendships across the globe (it’s even spawned a few whisky clubs!) and regularly draws a sizeable live audience as well as replaying afterwards, on demand, to fit around the audience’s available whisky time.

Maybe I’ll welcome you there..
